Have a Beer… and a vote

Back in 2000, I thought that Gov. Bush would be a great guy to have over for a cookout and to toss back a few ‘cold ones’. I remember that I wasn’t alone, that was one of the ‘likability’ factors that folks bought into. He was a ‘good ol boy’.

Scott Williams over at Big is the New Small asks the question, Which of the current candidates would you most like to have a beer with?

I think Sen. McCain is the guy that comes to the family BBQ and drinks too much and then starts telling dirty jokes and embarrassing everyone. I think that Sen. Clinton knows how to toss back a few, but won’t admit it. So that leaves, Sen. Obama. I’m not sure that I would want to have a beer with him, but I would like to sit with him in a quiet corner of a neighborhood coffee shop and talk about ’stuff’.

What do you think?

  1. Okay, here’s how it would go with me if they were to ask:

Clinton: Out of hand denial and no guilt whatsoever.

McCain: I respect all that he has given to this country. So I would have at least one beer with him. However, I envision it being very awkward. I would excuse myself after the first beer for some sort of contrived family emergency.

Obama: I think that he would be the best in the “have a beer with” category. However, I would steer clear of political discussions because he is an absolute nightmare on that topic.

  2. I’ll have a beer with McCain. He’s the least cerebral of the three candidates. I mean, I’d hate to have to talk smart all the time.
